Tips to Maintain Your HVAC System
We can’t imagine a modern house, office, and apartment without an AC system. It cools the temperature inside the premises and provides a cozy environment for people. For smooth operation of AC systems, it’s important to take care of HVAC systems.
The HVAC system stands for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning. From time-to-time, you need to take care of the HVAC system, which is vulnerable to damages. Excessive use, lack of care & maintenance, human errors, and irregular power supply are some important reasons that cause breakdowns in the AC system. So, how to maintain your HVAC system? Let’s have a look at some effective tips-
Clean filters and radiator
Filters and radiators make the air conditioner look like a fine multi-layer mesh. They protect the radiator from the ingress of small particles of dust, pet hair, and fluff. Over time, all this accumulates on the surface of the filter and can lead to the breakdown of the split system.
When filters are clogged, the airflow through the radiator will decrease dramatically. Consequently, you see a sharp decline in the AC cooling system. Freon– a special cooling agent-located in the heat exchanger doesn’t get time to evaporate. In the end, the connecting blocks in the pipelines will be covered with ice. When you turn off the air conditioner, the ice starts to melt and the resulting water will drip from the split system.
The next problem that occurs due to dirty filters is clogging of the drainage system with dust lumps. In this case, the air conditioner will leak even more.
Apart from this, the cleanliness of home air conditioner filters is primarily a matter of health. Always keep in mind that pathogens can settle in the accumulated wet dust, which can enter the household’s lungs through inhaled air.
To clean the air conditioner filters, remove them first of all. It is described in the operating instructions of the equipment. After that, it is enough to wash them, dry and install them back.
The radiator also needs to be cleaned periodically because mold can form on it. If you don’t know how to do it correctly, call INTEK’ s expert in. Our experts will clean the evaporator with a steam cleaner which prevents the rapid formation of mold.
Eliminate Freon leak
It is not necessary to have special devices to determine the lack of coolant in the system. The first sign of a lack of refrigerant (freon) is the formation of frost and ice on the copper connections of the outdoor unit. Insufficient cooling of the air in the apartment is also a sign that you need to refuel the air conditioner with freon. Call our experts in to deal with this problem.
Always keep in mind that normalized leakage of refrigerant (freon) occurs even with the highest quality installation of the air conditioner. When the amount of freon drops below the acceptable level, the split system may break down sooner than later. This coolant prevents the compressor from overheating. If there is a lack of freon, the compressor will not cool down enough. It will overheat and jam. Remember, replacing the evaporator is usually about half the cost of the air conditioner itself.
To avoid damage caused by a refrigerant leak, refuel the air conditioner with freon and carry out subsequent refueling every 1.5-2 years.
Clean the heat exchanger
The air conditioner heat exchanger should be cleaned from time to time. It is located under the cover or the filters of the device. If you do not clean it regularly, it is fraught with the same problems as if the filter is clogged.
To clean the radiator, open and remove the front grille of the air conditioner, remove the filters, and use a brush or vacuum cleaner to clean the fins of the heat exchanger. You must be careful not to damage the device or cut yourself on sharp edges. If possible, buy special disinfection solutions and sprays. Spray them on the radiator, left for a few minutes, and remove any residue. Do not use aggressive solvents or detergents. It is better to clean the heat exchanger at least once a year for its proper operation.
Take care of the internal and external block
Regularly remove dirt and dust from the indoor unit fan. It is better to do this with a brush or sponge. Accumulated dirt on the fan blades reduces the cooling effect. Clean the fan from the outdoor unit. The condensate drain pipe must be purged and cleaned properly. This is a tube from which condensate formed during the operation of the air conditioner drips. If this pipe is significantly dirty, water starts to leak into the room.
Clean the external block of the AC system as well. Manufacturers of air conditioners recommend that maintenance should be carried out at least 3 or 4 times a year, especially during the spring and summer seasons during which the equipment is used actively. If you can’t clean the device yourself, it is better to call specialists who can climb using the tower and carefully do all Use the auto-cleaning feature
Use Auto Cleaning Feature
Many modern air conditioners have additional options, including auto-cleaning. It occurs due to the movement of air flows through the system idling. So the internal parts of the device are blown and dried. If the device has a built-in touch sensor, it will automatically assess the air composition and start auto-cleaning when necessary.
This option is extremely useful for keeping your equipment clean. However, you should still periodically flush the filters, since simply blowing air is not enough. It is better to combine the existing automatic cleaning with the manual.
